Gatifloxacin formulations

An IPC-ESI-MS/MS method allowed the simultaneous determination of neomycin and bacitracin in human and rabbit sera [79] and the analysis of aminoglycoside antibiotics in human plasma [80]. IPC was recently validated for the estimation of bulk and formulated gatifloxacin [81]. The IPC determination of norfloxacin in diverse matrices worked as a stability indicating method [82], A CI2 stationary phase with embedded polar group successfully achieved IPC baseline tetracycline separation simply by using a phosphate as the IPR [83], A practical IPC method for the quality control of fosfomycin calcium and its related substances was recently suggested [84],... [Pg.165]

Since gatifloxacin has a high oral systemic availability (96%), oral and intravenous formulations are bioequivalent and interchangeable (8). It has a large volume of distribution (about 1.8 1/kg), low protein binding (about 20%), broad tissue distribution, and is primarily excreted unchanged in the urine (over 80%) (7). After daily repeated administration, there was predictable modest accumulation steady state concentrations were reached after the third dose (9). [Pg.1482]

As patients improve clinicaUy, the route of administration should be reevaluated. Streamlining therapy from parenteral to oral (switch therapy) has become an accepted practice for many infections outside the bloodstream and CNS. Criteria that should be present to justify a switch to oral therapy include (1) overall clinical improvement, (2) lack of fever for 24 to 48 hours, (3) decreased WBC count, and (4) a functioning gastrointestinal tract. Drugs that exhibit excellent oral bioavaUabifity when compared with intravenous formulations include ciprofloxacin, clindamycin, doxycycline, gatifloxacin, levofloxacin, metronidazole, moxifloxacin, linezolid, and trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole. [Pg.1916]
