Gates types

The modulus of elasticity (MOE) is related to the strength and can be used as a nondestmctive quaUty control test on high cost special refractory shapes such as sHde gate valves employed in the pouring of steel (qv). The sHde gate type must be selected to ensure chemical compatibiUty and it must be used in a way to reduce thermal shock. The performance of a properly selected and used sHde gate is direcdy related to its strength and therefore predicted by its MOE. [Pg.29]

In addition, the ratio between substrate flux and inhibitor binding is related to the electrical potential in a simple manner which is characteristic for each of the three above-mentioned models for instance, hyperpolarization of the membrane potential should not change this ratio with the gate type model nor with the carrier model 2 (z = — 1) whereas under the same conditions that ratio should increase in carrier model 1 (z = 0). While anchors and gate-type impellers are known to produce poor axial circulation of the liquid in a vessel, in one study [Peters and Smith, 1967] it seems that the fluid visco-elasticity promotes axial flow. For instance, axial flow is reported to be almost 15 times greater in a visco-elastic solution as compared with a Newtonian medium.
