Gasoline average composition

The simple model was not directly used for monitoring VOC emissions. The EPA determined that a fuel with an RVP of 8.1 psi and 2.0 wt% oxygen would be sufficient to achieve the minimum 15% VOC emission reduction. Baseline emission levels are from 1990 model year (MY) vehicles operated on a baseline gasoline (Table 1). The baseline fuel, derived from average survey data of the compositions of gasolines in the United States in 1989, is shown in Table 1. This baseline fuel was defined to indicate a performance standard and not a formula composition standard. To achieve equivalency certification, refiner and importer s gasoline must comply with the CAA requirements for emissions as shown in Table 2. " ... 

Within the next 10 to 15 years lead compounds will disappear as a gasoline octane improver and some 250 million octane tons per year (6 million octane barrels per day) are required to fill this gap. The current estimated average gasoline composition in Western Europe (Ref. 14) is illustrated in Figure 5 below. The two main blending components are reformate and cat cracked gasoline.

This composition represents an average C8 aromatic mixture obtained by extraction from a catalytic reformate. Inclusion of aromatic extracts from pyrolysis gasolines and/or prefractionation to remove ethylbenzene can cause a wide variation in fresh feed composition. 

Binary diffusion coefficients were calculated by the Wilke and Lee equation and the required parameters, characteristic Lennard-Jones energies and lengths for each lump, were calculated by using the average critical temperatures and volumes of the lumps [13, p. 396,587]. The critical properties were calculated fiom the average product compositions of the liunps (dry gas, LPG and gasoline) and from the distillation curve (gas oil).
