There are a number of gasket types and sizes, so make sure you match the old gasket exacdy. If you ve replaced the O-ring, scrubbed the showerhead until it shines, used Teflon tape on the threads, screwed it as tight as you can, and the shower still leaks, admit defeat and get a new showerhead. 

A manufacturer recommended lubricant is needed to make a connection with gasket-type pipe. The lubricant is applied to the bevel of the spigot end of pipe. This lubricant is applied from the end of the pipe to a point about halfway to the insertion line. You should not place any lubricant in the bell end of the pipe.
