Gallium-Indium liquid metal

Portland cement Isobutyl alcohol Liquid metal alloy of gallium, indium, and tin of melting point Water 63.4-65.0 0.13-0.17 0.13-0.17 up to 100... [Pg.286]

A liquid metal alloy [36] containing gallium, indium, and tin has been proposed as an additive to Portland cement. A formulation is shown in Table 18-10. The liquid metal alloy has a melting point of 11° C. Its presence does not cause corrosion of stainless steel up to 250° C but causes corrosion of steel alloys at temperature above 35° C, and it dissolves aluminum at room temperature. The alloy is harmless to skin and mucous membranes. [Pg.286]

Intergranular cracking may be caused by liquid metal embrittlement if the alloy is under tensile stress, either residual or applied. While mercury embrittles copper, the severity increases when alloyed with aluminum or zinc. This embrittlement occurs in both tension and fatigue and varies with grain size and strain rate. Other aUo5ing elements such as lithium, sodium, bismuth, gallium, and indium also affect embrittlement. [Pg.569]

Lead, however, has only the characteristically metallic c.c.p. form. Tin and lead resemble gallium and indium in their long ranges of liquidity. [Pg.308]
