Following are descriptions of several neurologic gait patterns. [Pg.296]

Scissors gait In scissors gait the legs are adducted, crossing alternately in front of one another. Both lower limbs are spastic, and there is spasm ofthe adductor muscles at the hipjoints, often accompanied by pronounced compensatory motions ofthe trunk and upper extremities. Bilateral upper motor neuron lesions, advanced cervical spondylosis, or multiple sclerosis may produce this gait pattern. [Pg.297]

Discussion The results of this study indicate that muscle weakness is an independent risk factor for OA onset and progression. Needless to say that in an in-vivo study with freely ambulating animals, muscle weakness may cause a series of contaminating conditions for example, altered gait patterns, and changed behavior. Nevertheless, whatever the detailed reasons for the increased knee joint degeneration following quadriceps weakness, weakness was the catalyst for these events to occur. [Pg.4]

AU markers trajectories data were filtered in order to remove unwanted signals due to markers vibrations or motion artifacts. The filling gap processed were also implemented in order to predict the actual positions of the markers locations in which the VICON system fail to capture the actual markers positions due to its invisibility during recording processed. The trials were examined in order to get the clearest markers positions and to ensure the consistency of the gait patterns. The bad representation of the trial was omitted. [Pg.162]

The cats have to cross the walkway by their own. To stimulate the cat, food or kennels are placed at the opposite of the starting walkway. A trial was considered valid when all of four paws were in contact with the surface of the walkway for each walk cycle the cats maintained a steady-state, straight line gait pattern without stop or turning their heads and there were at least three consecutive regular strides to analyze. Five valid trials were recorded for each cat. [Pg.60]
