Gabapentin nausea

Hot flushes/flashes remain a problem when tamoxifen is used to treat breast cancer. In a 4-week study in 22 women with this problem considerable relief was obtained by simultaneous use of oral gabapentin 300 mg tds (121). Occasional side effects were nausea, rash and excessive sleepiness. 

The effects of a single preoperative dose of gabapentin 600 mg 2 hours preoperat-ively on postoperative pain and tramadol consumption after minilap open cholecystectomy have been assessed in a doubleblind study in 120 adults [163 ]. Sedation was common, and the incidence of postoperative nausea and vomiting was significantly reduced by gabapentin. 

Abrupt discontinuation and withdrawal of gabapentin may precipitate seizure (status epilepticus). The most frequently reported events following abrupt discontinuation were anxiety, insomnia, nausea, pain, and sweating. 

Placebo-controlled studies The efficacy and safety of gabapentin for prevention of chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting were evaluated [67 ]. Chemotherapy-naive patients received either placebo or gabapentin 300-900 mg/d, 5 days prior to xmtil 5 days after chemotherapy. One patient stopped gabapentin treatment due to sleepiness. Other side effects related to gabapentin included xerostomia (57%), weakness (47%), sleepiness (45%), dizziness (45%), constipation (45%), and heart bum (32.5%). There were no significant differences in incidence of side effects between treatment and control groups in tiiis study.
