2-Furylacetic acid

Furylacetic acid derivatives are primarily 2,5-dimethoxylated an elimination of methanol leads to stereoisomeric olefins (XXVI) [311] as in Fig. 3. [Pg.1076]

Palladium(II) trisulfonated catalysts have been used, with carbon monoxide under pressure and aqueous reaction conditions to carbonylate, for example, 2-hydroxymethyl-5-formylfuran. 5-Methyl-2-formylfuran was obtained in addition to 5-formyl-2-furylacetic acid <94CC2569>. Pal-ladium(O) catalysts have been shown to effect a number of cycloaddition processes that use carbon monoxide as a one carbon component. Benzofurans have been synthesised by cyclocarbonylation <89TL95> and in the example shown in Equation (31) norbomene gave the tricyclic system in good yield <94TL3197> in a reaction where the palladium(O) catalyst was generated in situ. [Pg.318]

Gandini and Rieumont26,119 have carried out an extensive examination of the polymerizability of several vinyl esters of furan carboxylic acids and of the causes of the autoinhibition which most of them display with free-radical initiation. The compounds studied were the vinyl esters of 2-furoic, 2-furylacetic, 2-furylpropionic, 2-furylacrylic and sorbic acid. All these derivatives, showed the same strong indifference towards radical polymerization. Only when treated with large doses (10—30%) of initiator did they give small yields of oligomers. The structure of all these products was carefully studied by spectroscopic and other techniques. Invariably, it was... [Pg.76]

Synthesis of ( )-untenone A from 5-substituted furylacetate 50 by using bromine oxidation in MeOH followed by acidic hydrolysis, an approach based on a likely biogenetic pathway, has appeared <00TL3467>. [Pg.138]
