Furostanol glucosides

Glucosidasc has also been used by other authors (75-79) to cleave the C-26 glucose unit of 26-0-furostanol glucosides. Other enzymes used to cleave the monosaccharide unit of furostanol glycosides are almond emulsin (80) and hesperidinase (81).

Furostanol glycosides Jurubine [(25S)-3/J-amino-26-( 8-D-glucopyranosyloxy)-5a-furostan-22a-ol] is the only compound of this group for which the structure has been elucidated. It is so far the first and only furostanol glycoside to be isolated (see steroid saponins). Enzymatic or acidic hydrolysis of the glucoside furnishes jurubidine (see Solanum steroid alkaloids) after spontaneous and stereospecific cyclization.
