Frost container plants

The soft lavender, blue, or pink flower dusters of ageratum are a beautiful addition to the flower garden. Plants grow 6 -36 high and about 1 wide. They bloom from early summer to first frost. Ageratums also make good container plants. [Pg.14]

Granberg et al. (2001) modeled CH4 emission from an oligotrophic lawn community in a boreal mire. Their representation of winter conditions (frost and snow) is the main difference between their model and that of Walter and Heimann (2000). The model was forced with daily mean air temperatures and daily accumulated precipitation. Methane was simulated with a model which separated CH4 emission by ebullition, diffusion, and plant transport. Oxidation was estimated by oxidation potential, which was centered at the water table. This model indicated that the mean level of the water table was the most important predictor of simulated CH4 emission, and that the presence of vascular plants is the most important factor in determining CH4 emission. These authors point out that their model contains tuning parameters that cannot be replaced by measurable parameters in the field. They called for focusing... [Pg.1989]

Tomatoes are tender plants, so they shouldn t be put outdoors while there s a risk of frost. They need a sunny, sheltered spot to ripen, and when grown In containers or gro bags, they need to be regularly watered and fed. [Pg.157]

Bare-root trees, which are cheaper and easier to plant, should he planted in winter or early spring when the tree is dormant, in frost-free soil. Container-grown trees can he planted any time, hut they will establish better if they are planted in the winter. If you know how to prune a fruit tree, buy a one-year-old feathered maiden (a tree that has a central stem with a number of lateral branches off it). If not, buy a two- or three-year-old tree that has been trained by the grower. [Pg.216]
