If there is more than one step which is not in quasiequilibrium, one must pay attention to the distribution of the affinity (free energy decrease) of the overall reaction among such steps involved. This can readily be done starting with general equations already presented in Section 3. In short, the analysis would involve evaluation of the overall free energy decrease from free energy decreases of the constituent steps, calculation of the overall rate from rates of the steps, correlation of the forward and backward unidirectional component rates of an elementary step with the free energy decrease associated with it, and connection of the various step rates on the basis of the steady state mass balance requirements. [Pg.265]
