Fractionation improving degree

The deviation from planarity that is present in a structure such as 1 raises the question of how severely a conjugated system can be distorted from the ideal coplanar alignment of p orbitals and still retain aromaticity. This problem has been analyzed by determining the degree of rehybridization necessary to maximize p orbital overlap in 1. It is found that rehybridization to incorporate fractional amounts of s character can improve orbital alignment substantially. Orbitals with about 6% s character are suggested to be involved... [Pg.518]

Here is our problem. A refinery crude distillation tower is producing gasoline, truck diesel, and a gas oil. The diesel is contaminated with the gas oil. Also, the gas oil is contaminated with the lighter diesel. As shown in Fig. 12.5, the vapor flow into the tower is constant. Our job is to improve the degree of fractionation between diesel and gas oil. Our objective is to remove the relatively heavy gas oil from the diesel and to remove the lighter diesel from the gas oil. [Pg.143]

Again, this improvement in the degree of fractionation developed by trays 5, 6, and 7 is a result of reducing the amount of heat duty removed by the pumparound flowing across trays 8, 9, and 10. [Pg.144]

In an earlier procedure applying universal calibration, viscosities of the four most concentrated fractions eluting about the peak were measured, and the intrinsic viscosities were plotted against count. The intrinsic viscosities of all the fractions were obtained by extrapolation of the plot for use in the calculations to obtain degree of polymerization (DP). In the present method the DP of each fraction is obtained from the relationship MW = (cod size/K)1/1+ derived from Benoit s concept and the Mark-Houwink equation. Results from the new procedure are in excellent agreement with those obtained independently on cotton by others. Anomalies in results obtained previously on some samples disappear while marked improvement is noted for others. The determination is speeded up greatly by computer processing of data, and experimental error is reduced. [Pg.184]
