The latter command will give the answer as 6.2832 in format short g, while the screen output will be 6.283185307179586e+00 in format long e. Powers of the base 10 are always displayed in MATLAB via the e-extension as be a in format e. Thus 400 = 4e+02 and 1/1000 = le-03 in MATLAB s exponential output and screen display. Format statements can be entered at any prompt such as format short, or inside MATLAB code where desired. Commanding format toggles the output format back to the previous format setting.

In the initial mixed zooplankton experiments, Long et al. (submitted) found that crustacean mesozooplankton, dominated by adult copepods A. tonsa and P. pelagicus, significantly suppressed colony formation. In other experiments, Long et al. (submitted) found that infochemical cues alone from the mesozooplankton A. tonsa alone suppressed colony formation. Long et al. (submitted) also observed that the colony suppression effect of A. tonsa was density dependent. In experiments with the microzooplankton Euplotes spp., Long et al. Lactone Formation. Long-chain hydroxy acids can, by this method, be converted into lactones (eq 3). Of note is the observation that even macrocyclic lactones can be formed in high yields without high dilution or other catalysts. 

MATLAB, however, displays only 5 digits by default. To display more digits, the user should type format long.
