FOOTNOTE statement

Because simple ASCII text is the destination for the output, some TITLE and FOOTNOTE statements had to be padded on the right with spaces to get titles and footnotes to left align. 

This statement, complete with a footnote reference, allows you to check and verify the sources of this information. Footnotes at the bottom of the page, or at the end of the book in the endnotes, allow the reader to check the source of this fact. The author, following correct footnote procedure, would have recorded his or her statistic at the bottom of the page in the following format ...

Unless your instructor has asked you to use a certain number of sources, there is no maximum or minimum number of citations that any research paper should contain. In other words, some topics and papers require a lot of documentation, particularly if the subject matter is controversial or previously undocumented, while other subjects require very little. When in doubt about whether to footnote a particular statement, it is usually better to back up any statement that may need support with a proper footnote or citation. Remove any doubt that may be lingering in the reader s mind about the authenticity of your research. However, if you are writing many footnotes, which may be perfectly legitimate for your paper and subject matter, you may have questions such as, What do I do if I have to cite the same page twice in a row Or, you may find that you have multiple citations that come from the same author and are on the same page. Do you have to have to write out all that material over and over again The answer is no. Once you have provided the full information on any book or source that you have consulted, you do not have to mention all that material again. A statement specifying that the test report or calibration certificate shall not be reproduced except in full, without written approval of the laboratory should be included in the document (e.g. as a footnote). 

It will be noticed in Table III that the rate constant for complex 3 has a maximum value, relative to complex I, at ef = 15 kcal., and relative to complex 2, at ef = 5 kcal. These comparisons give the differential effect of four Ci tumblings relative to four vibration modes at 1190(2) and 822(2), for complex 1, or 595(2) and 410(2), for complex 2. This chapter introduced the basic elements of accounting, which readers are likely to encounter in industry. From accounting records and internal reports, the financial data ultimately become part of the balance sheet or the income statement. The various tenns in the balance sheet and the income statement were defined, and an illustration of these documents for a typical company was presented. This information should allow readers to determine how well a company has done and is doing. All annual reports contain footnotes, which explain how changes in the financial infonnation and pending litigation could affect the financial performance of the company. The literature was checked systematically until early Autumn 1994, including some papers published later, of which I had copies of the manuscripts from the authors. Some important papers, published late in 1994 after the manuscript of this book had already been submitted to the publisher, could be mentioned briefly in footnotes or by adding corresponding statements ( very recent paper ).

No stone is left unturned along this journey. Numerous footnotes point out pitfalls, exceptions, and limitations of the statements made. Mastery of the material by a novice will require patience, but the rewards will be great. The author distinguishes carefully between firm conclusions and mere conjectures based on symmetry arguments.
