FOOTNOTE statement

Because simple ASCII text is the destination for the output, some TITLE and FOOTNOTE statements had to be padded on the right with spaces to get titles and footnotes to left align. [Pg.145]

This statement, complete with a footnote reference, allows you to check and verify the sources of this information. Footnotes at the bottom of the page, or at the end of the book in the endnotes, allow the reader to check the source of this fact. The author, following correct footnote procedure, would have recorded his or her statistic at the bottom of the page in the following format ... [Pg.88]

Statements with footnotes or endnotes look like this ... [Pg.104]

Unless your instructor has asked you to use a certain number of sources, there is no maximum or minimum number of citations that any research paper should contain. In other words, some topics and papers require a lot of documentation, particularly if the subject matter is controversial or previously undocumented, while other subjects require very little. When in doubt about whether to footnote a particular statement, it is usually better to back up any statement that may need support with a proper footnote or citation. Remove any doubt that may be lingering in the reader s mind about the authenticity of your research. However, if you are writing many footnotes, which may be perfectly legitimate for your paper and subject matter, you may have questions such as, What do I do if I have to cite the same page twice in a row Or, you may find that you have multiple citations that come from the same author and are on the same page. Do you have to have to write out all that material over and over again The answer is no. Once you have provided the full information on any book or source that you have consulted, you do not have to mention all that material again. Footnotes that immediately follow one another and are taken from the... [Pg.105]

A statement specifying that the test report or calibration certificate shall not be reproduced except in full, without written approval of the laboratory should be included in the document (e.g. as a footnote). [Pg.40]

It will be noticed in Table III that the rate constant for complex 3 has a maximum value, relative to complex I, at ef = 15 kcal., and relative to complex 2, at ef = 5 kcal. These comparisons give the differential effect of four Ci tumblings relative to four vibration modes at 1190(2) and 822(2), for complex 1, or 595(2) and 410(2), for complex 2. The effect of the quadratic dependence of rotational energy levels on the quantum number J is thus evident. This is what makes the statement of the footnote on p. 12 valid there, only two tumblings were represented by two vibration modes at 300 cm.-1, and the effect on the rate is estimated at less than a factor of 10 (even at a value of ef as low as 0-5 kcal.), while variation of rate with ef will be crudely correct. [Pg.18]

At this point it is appropriate to repeat Dirac s statement from footnote 1. At the risk of misquotation it is done under the assumption that the term beauty was used in the sense of a subtle deviation from mathematically exact symmetry. Restated in more austere language it then reads Any convincing theory reflects a broken symmetry. [Pg.38]

An evaluation of 25,682 clinical data sheets from 1952-1963 (Dept, of Internal Medicine, University Hospital, Giessen) revealed the existence of a total of pleural effusions (combination of banal effusion and hydrothorax) in 9.8% of cases (confirmed by X-ray imaging or autopsies). In 4.3%, pleural effusion was found to be hepatogenous. Localization was bilateral in 69%, left-sided in 18.7Vo, and right-sided in 12.3Vo - a controversial result when compared with some statements made in the literature, (s. p. 298 and footnote )... [Pg.736]

The FDA has established authority over every word, footnote, picture and nuance of all promotional activities issued by or sponsored by drug companies. That includes promotion to the consumer, press materials, detailing aids, continuing medical education, seminars, materials for managed care organizations. The agency has jurisdiction over oral statements made by a company representative to a physician. [Pg.59]

Unlike background removal, where the subtraction of a constant background is permissible (see the footnote on page 348), this statement has no exceptions. [Pg.354]

When publishing the results of a clinical trial, a statement or footnote that clearly indicates the sponsor of the clinical trial must be made. When presenting the results of a clinical trial during lectures, congresses and the like, sponsorship must also be mentioned likewise, any possible financial interest of the authors must be clearly indicated. [Pg.69]

Justify, by means of the Debye-Hilckel limiting lair, the statement in the footnote in 41h. [Pg.426]

This chapter introduced the basic elements of accounting, which readers are likely to encounter in industry. From accounting records and internal reports, the financial data ultimately become part of the balance sheet or the income statement. The various tenns in the balance sheet and the income statement were defined, and an illustration of these documents for a typical company was presented. This information should allow readers to determine how well a company has done and is doing. All annual reports contain footnotes, which explain how changes in the financial infonnation and pending litigation could affect the financial performance of the company. The lOK report was mentioned because it provides the source of the detailed backup financial information not in the annual report. [Pg.124]

The literature was checked systematically until early Autumn 1994, including some papers published later, of which I had copies of the manuscripts from the authors. Some important papers, published late in 1994 after the manuscript of this book had already been submitted to the publisher, could be mentioned briefly in footnotes or by adding corresponding statements ( very recent paper ). [Pg.529]

See Lakatos, 1974 127, and footnote 20 helow. Beyond this basic issue, Lakatos added another problem to his philosophy of science, which is not Popper s, namely, what the criteria are by which scientists decide which theories are to constimte the hard core of a research program sensu Lakatos, that is, which statements to render unfalsihable by fiat (Kuhn, 1974a 238). [Pg.69]

As cited by J.R. Smith, Persistence and Periodicity, unpublished Ph.D. thesis. University of London, 1975, p. 460. Also see U.Mendeleesv, An Attempt Towards a Chemical Conception of the Ether. This statement appears in the Russian edition of 1902 as a footnote. [Pg.310]

An important statement in the new avoring regulation was added only at a nal stage of the political discussions of the draft text, as a footnote (asterisk) to the table, applying to three of the substances that are marked with an asterisk estragol, safrol, and methyleugenol. [Pg.1075]

No stone is left unturned along this journey. Numerous footnotes point out pitfalls, exceptions, and limitations of the statements made. Mastery of the material by a novice will require patience, but the rewards will be great. The author distinguishes carefully between firm conclusions and mere conjectures based on symmetry arguments. Although some of the theoretically inclined expert readers may consider a conjecture unlikely here and there, all stand to... [Pg.317]
