Some examples of sulfide flotation are copper sulfides flotation from siUceous gangue sequential flotation of sulfides of copper, lead, and zinc from complex and massive sulfide ores and flotation recovery of extremely small (a few ppm) amounts of precious metals. Examples of nonsulfide flotation include separation of sylvite, KCl, from haUte, NaCl, which are two soluble minerals having similar properties selective flocculation—flotation separation of iron oxides from siUca separation of feldspar from siUca, siUcates, and oxides phosphate rock separation from siUca and carbonates and coal flotation. 

PHOSPHATATION A clarification process where phosphoric acid or a soluble phosphate is used with lime and heat. The impurities are removed by flocculation, flotation, and surface scraping. 

Different technologies have been developed in recent years to treat the wastewaters contaminated with heavy metals. Chemical precipitation, coagulation-flocculation, flotation, ion exchange, and membrane filtration can be employed to remove heavy metals from contaminated wastewater.6 However, they have inherent limitations in application mainly due to the lack of economical feasibility for the treatment of large volumes of water with a low metal concentration. Hydrotalcite is often too fine grained to produce treatment columns with suitable permeability. As an alternative, the sorbent may be mixed with contaminated water in a tank (Lazaridis et al, 2002). The spent sorbent is then separated from the treated water by flocculation, flotation, or other separation methods (see Section 7.2.4). Lazaridis et al. (2002) investigated the use of surfactants with dispersed-air flotation to separate spent hydrotalcites from treated water. Major harvesting techniques include flocculation, flotation, gravity sedimentation, centrifugation and filtration.
