Flexible Platforms

PTFE is most well known by the DuPont brand name Teflon. It is highly resistant to chemicals and wear. According to DuPont, its melting point is 327 °C, but its mechanical properties degrade above 260 °C. Therefore, PTFE allows for processing steps in the 250 °C range. 

It makes a good gas and fair moisture barrier, as well as a good barrier to alcohol tmd solvents

Alternatives to conventional photolithography will enable both reduction in cost and complexity for large-area electronics fabrication and will also help enable a transition from rigid substrates to flexible platforms. The transition towards roll-to-roll processing of flexible electronics may be required to follow the roadmap for low-cost large-area electronics. 

Hydro is actively working to develop a new paste process involving a particle distribution that means less plasticizer needs to be added, and in which new types of plasticizers can be used (flexible platform). Hydro is also involved in international research on new PVC production methods and the development of new PVC materials.

Nonetheless, because of their iterative nature, type II and HI PKSs provide less flexible platforms for combinatorial biosynthesis. Thus, to date, the majority of PKS genetic engineering efforts have focused on type I PKS systans. The remainder of this section will focus on developments in the engineering of noniterative type I PKSs. 

In addition, [(q -l,2,4-Me3C5H2)2Hf]2(p-ri ri -N2) (32) reacts with 1 equiv. of CO to the metastable, base-free isocyanato nitrido compound [ (q -l,2,4-Me3C5H2)2Hf 2(p-N)(NCO)] (36), which is a flexible platform for further functionalizations such as cycloaddition and insertion reactions... 

Usability issues H3<5 Only minor issues related mainly with intrinsic limitations of the implementation platform are tolerated, (e.g. Microsoft Excel poor for automatic table of contents generation). If the platform imposes a major or more than 5 minor usability issues it should be replaced by other more flexible platform.

A BCP is a good tool for the design of nanostractured materials, as discussed in the previous sections. It offers a flexible platform for a variety of nanomaterials with functionalities and robustness since one can combine BCP SA with a sol-gel process, nanoparticle synthesis, chemical vapor deposition, electrodeposition, or electroless deposition. Thus, in principle, the structural and material diversity obtained from the aforementioned techniques is substantial. This section introduces specific classes of material prepared from BCP-directed SA by the Wiesner group.
