Flash arrestor

First, connect the gas supply line from the regulator to the fuel cell entry port barb connector. As a general practice, always have some sort of flashback arrestor between the regulator and the fuel cell stack. This can be a small flashback bubbler that you can construct and install, or you can use a commercial flash arrestor. 

Perfluoro(5-propyl-l,3,4-dioxazol-2-onc) (14.36 g. 56.3 mmol) was added over a period of 15 min to a 100-mL flask packed with stainless steel sponge (flash arrestor) and connected to a horizontal stainless steel tube heated to 285 -312 C. During the addition, the tube and flask were evacuated to 30 Torr. and the pyrolysate that passed through the tube was condensed in successive traps cooled with dry icc/acctone and liquid N2. The flask containing the stainless steel Sponge was heated periodically to ensure complete volatilization of the dioxazolone. The liquid N, cooled trap contained solid C02. The dry ice cooled trap contained a liquid, which was distilled to give the product yield 12.45g (93%) colorless liquid bp 25.5 26 C. 

Flame (flash) arrestor n. Devices utilized on vents for flammable liquid or gas tanks, storage containers, cans, gas hnes or flammable hquid pipelines to prevent flashback (movement of flame) through the line or into the container, when a flammable of explosive mixture is ignited. Wire screen of 40 meshes is utflized on smaller openings. On larger openings, parallel metal plates or tubes are more effective. 

The flash arrestor, illustrated in Fig. 8-20, is widely used in the welding industry to help prevent a flashback from reaching the regulator. When equipped with check valves, the flash arrestor helps prevent an accidental mixture of gases such as oxygen and acetylene, which, if ignited, can be hazardous. Note Flash arrestors are designed for specific gas mixtures and pressures, and the user should consult the manufacturer before installing them in a system.

A flame arrestor, or flash arrestor, is a device used on vents for flammable liquid or gas tanks, storage containers, and so on, which prevent flashback when a flammable or explosive mixture is ignited.
