Fittings ferrule

All required materials for a PSI system are easily accessible a flask with two ground glass joints (or one joint and an arm), rubber septum, rubber hose, a short length of PEEK tubing ( 0.5 m), a PEEK chromatography fitting (nut and ferrule) and a source of... 

Use 1/16 compression nuts and ferrules from vendors such as Parker, Swagelok, or Rheodyne. These have similar ferrule shapes, which are compatible with each other. Note that Waters and Valeo fittings have different ferrule shape and seating depths and might not be interchangeable with others. 

The myriad types of l.c. fittings produced by a great number of vendors have led to confusion among chromatographers about the proper choice for each application. Fortunately, fittings that are more universal in their applications are now available, and one of the most useful of these has a knurled flange on the nut, and a replaceable, polymeric ferrule. These fittings may be sealed by hand and re-used many times without failure. 

Copper and its nonferrous metal alloys, bronze and brass, are used to manufacture tubing, ferrules, valves, and a variety of fittings. Although their use is somewhat limited in automotive fuel systems, they are found commonly throughout fuel storage and distribution systems. Copper steam coils and brass hardware may be utilized due to their excellent resistance to corrosion and high level of thermal conductivity. Described below are some of the more common alloys of copper and their applications ... 

Al.l The low-range thermometer, which conforms also to the specifications of the cup thermometer in the Tag Closed Tester (ASTM Method D 56, Test for Flash Point by Tag Closed Tester) and which frequently is fitted with a metal ferrule intended to fit the collar on the lid of the Tag Flash Tester, can be supplemented by an adapter (Fig Al) to be used in the larger diam collar of the Fen sky-Martens apparatus. Differences in dimensions of these collars, which do not affect test results are a source of unnecessary trouble to manufacturers and suppliers of instruments, as well as to users...

The tubing is connected to the pump s outlet check valve by a compression fitting. The fitting is made up of two parts a screw with a hex head and a conical shaped ferrule (Fig. 3.1a). The top of the outlet valve housing has been drilled and threaded to accept the fitting. 

Spare parts that are needed are compression fittings and ferrules, plunger and injector rotor seals, an extra plunger and seals, column filters, and injector needle port seals. If you do not use pacification, you might want to keep a set of check valves on hand. I always have one coil each of 0.01- and 0.02-in tubing in addition to my column blank. A replacement solvent inlet line with a porous stone is useful in case of corrosion. If you filter solvents, you need cellulose, nylon, and Teflon filters. You also need a back-up lamp for your detector.
