Fire resistance guidelines

The general guideline for thermoplastics is that the greater the aromatic content, the greater the inherent fire resistance. Hence the fully aromatic thermoplastics (PPS, PES, PEEK, etc.) perform well on all the tests, without needing extraneous additives. Next in line are the semi-aromatic engineering plastics like PC, PBT, PET and the semi-aromatic nylons. Other nylons and polyolefins are less satisfactory. Nevertheless, nylon 6, 66 and 46... [Pg.54]

Other studies [15] also used data from previous researches by adding other tests on walls to show that the load-bearing walls fire resistance is depending on thickness and the performance of perforated bricks is related to the degree of drilling. Previous studies with other materials such as concrete under high temperatures have been used to provide guidelines about the behavior of mortars subjected to the thermal action. [Pg.440]

Radiant heat can be calculated using the SFPE Handbook of Fire Protection Engineering (Ref. 40) or CCPS s Guidelines for Evaluating the Characteristics of Vapor Cloud Explosions, Flash Fires, and BLEVEs (Ref. 5). If the expected radiant heat load exceeds the capacity of the building materials to resist it, further evaluation should be performed. References 104 and 105 provide additional guidance on fire. [Pg.94]

As a minimum, blast resistant buildings should be sited to meet the appropriate guidelines for fires such as those in IRJ1984 and company engineering practices. [Pg.10]
