Ivy Acres, originating with the black Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority, will be a 32 million project on 48 acres (19.4 ha). The project, which has been in the planning stages for a decade, will be the first minority-owned and sponsored retirement facility among 900 retirement facilities in the United States. It will be a continuous care community, with 188 independent living units, 40 assisted living apartments, and 20 skilled nursing beds. Thus, this will not be a retirement community as defined in this chapter. [Pg.1842]
