A series of dopamine release experiments with PMP /PSS films of different thicknesses was undertaken. The results showed that the release amount at 0.6 V increased as the film got thicker. For example, at 0.6 V 35 nmol cm 2 came from a 0.7 fjm film, 84 nmol cm 2 from 2.8 //m, and 126 nmol cm 2 from a 3.9 //m film. Comparison of the UV spectra of the solution revealed the occurrence of a side-reaction which stems from the oxidizability of dopamine either by the air or the anodic event. Needless to say, the side-reaction interfered in the precise measurement of the dopamine released. To minimize the side-reaction, further experiments used dimethyldopamine as the drug prototype. [Pg.65]

The colored form slowly isomerizes into the spiro form in dark. This photocoloration-thermobleaching cycle can be repeated in thin gel film. Comparison between rate constants for thermobleaching in sol and in thin gel film shows that isomerization rate in gel film using spiropyran 19 is very slow, that is, the colored form is stabilized by a factor about 10 in the gel film than in sol, as shown in Table 28-4. [Pg.1801]
