Tank Filling and Emptying

The following diagrams indicate other common combinations of filling and emptying tanks, which can be easily programmed to form the basis of simple simulation examples. [Pg.512]

Batch reaclors are tanks, usually provided with agitation and some mode of heat transfer to maintain temperature within a desirable range. They are primarily employed for relatively slow reactions of several hours duration, since the downtime for filling and emptying large equipment may be an hour or so. Agitation maintains uniformity and improves heat transfer. Modes of heat transfer are illustrated in Figs. 23-1 and 23-2. [Pg.695]

Another way storage tanks can breathe to atmosphere results from the expansion and contraction of the tank contents as the temperature changes between day and night. However, such effects tend to be smaller than those associated with tank filling and emptying. [Pg.554]

Category 4 Food contact materials and articles from which, according to their intended use conditions, no mass transfer to food could occur. Examples are conveyor belts and roller covers, suction and pressure lines for filling or emptying tanks, seals for pipes, pumps, faucets and valves for drinking water. [Pg.39]

High labor and handling costs as well as the start-up and shutdown times required to fill and empty the reactor are important drawbacks in a batch operation. Continuous flow systems are nearly always more cost-effective than batch reactors, especially when large volumes are to be treated, i.e., the main application of this reactor configuration is wastewater treatment. The removal of phenolic compounds from waters has been performed using SBP and HRP in continuous stirred tank reactor (CSTR) [49, 75, 76, 81, 83, 84],... [Pg.257]

Filling and Emptying Periods Say the pumping rate is V, the full tank volume is and the rate of reaction is r = kCj. For t < Vri/V the material balances with Eq. (7-68) are as follows. [Pg.521]

During filling and emptying or ambient temperature changes, tanks may experience minor movements and changes of shape in the shell walls, particularly if the tank is permitted to dry out. The movement may be particularly pronounced at the juncture of the vertical walls and the bottom, expecially if the bottom is concrete. [Pg.108]

The capacity of the tank will depend on the amount of liquid to be processed and on the time of treatment, which must include time for filling and emptying. The tank should be equipped with an agitating device to enable the carbbn particles to meet fresh portions... [Pg.97]

Vessels of large volume aud limited surface area to be cleaned are not adapted to fill-and-empty or flow-through methods. Qeaning reagents have been applied in the form of a gel. Also, the interior surface may be cleaned by using automated spray devices that do not require personnel to remain inside the vessel. In some instances, reactants, both alkalis and acids, have been put into the hollow space by means of steam and allowed to condense on the interior walls. Cleaning tank exteriors chemically has not met with great success. [Pg.601]

Current between a magnesium anode and a 50-gal steel tank filled with air-saturated hot water is 100 mA. Disregarding local-action currents, what interval of time is required between filling and emptying the tank to ensure minimum corrosion of outlet steel water piping (Solubility of oxygen in inlet water, 25 °C, = 6mL/liter.)... [Pg.266]

See Fig. 6-4.) Class TC/DOT 106A and IlOA specification tanks are used in multi-unit tank service. The tanks are designed to be removed from the car structure for filling and emptying. The tanks are lifted onto or off the car by crane or hoist. [Pg.85]

A good control during the operation of tank filling and emptying is recommended in order to reduce the probability of occurrence of the critical TOP events 2 and 3 ... [Pg.2365]

Self-closing valves are used where failure to close a valve manually might permit flow of oil or gas into areas where a serious fire may result. The types of installation for which self-closing valves should be considered include water and chemical draws, vents, bleeders, drains, level cocks, sample points, and tank truck and barrel filling and emptying systems. [Pg.292]
