Chemical tests for particular types of impurities, e.g. for peroxides in aliphatic ethers (with acidified KI), or for water in solvents (quantitatively by the Karl Fischer method, see Fieser and Fieser, Reagents for Organic Synthesis J. Amberlite IRA-904 Anion exchange resin (Rohm and Haas) [9050-98-0]. Washed with IM HCl, CH3OH (1 10) and then rinsed with distilled water until the washings were neutral to litmus paper. Finally extracted successively for 24h in a Soxhlet apparatus with MeOH, benzene and cyclohexane [Shue and Yan Anal Chem 53 2081 1981]. Strongly basic resin also used for base catalysis [Fieser Fieser Reagents for Org Synth 1511, Wiley 1967]. 

Pyridine hydrobromide perbromide (pyridinium bromide perbromide) [39416-48-3] M 319.9, m 130 (dec), 132-134 (dec). It is a very good brominating agent - liberating one mol. of Br2. Purified by recrystn from glacial acetic acid (33g from lOOmL of AcOH). [Fieser and Fieser Reagents for Organic Chemistry Vol 1 967 1967.]... 

Of more immediate use for the organic chemist is the remarkable compilation by L. F. Fieser and M. Fieser, Reagents for Organic Synthesis, Wiley/Interscience. As of this writing. Volume 1 (1967) and Volume 2 (1969) have appeared, and future volumes are anticipated. In their usual thoroughgoing style, the Fiesers have listed hundreds of organic reagents, brief discussions of their sources and applications, and many literature references.
