Field flow fractionation (FFF) can also be used for microbial cell separation. In the FFF technique, a field (may be gravitational, centrifugal, thermal-gradient, electrical, magnetic, etc.) is applied perpendicular to the fluid flow, causing particles to migrate with different velocities.
