Field-flow fractionation hyperlayer

Rapid Particle Size Analysis of Ground Minerals by Flow/Hyperlayer Field-Flow Fractionation, B. N. Barman, M. N. Myers and J. C. Giddings, Powder Technol., 59, 53 (1989). [Pg.301]

The techniques of field-flow fractionation appear to be well suited to colloid analysis. The special subtechnique of sedimentation FFF (SdFFF) is particularly effective in dealing with colloidal particles in the diameter range from 0.02 to 1 using the normal or Brownian mode of operation (up to 100 jU-m using the steric-hyperlayer mode). As a model sample for the observation of aggregate particles by SdFFF, of... [Pg.116]

Field flow fractionation (FFF) can also be used for microbial cell separation. In the FFF technique, a field (may be gravitational, centrifugal, thermal-gradient, electrical, magnetic, etc.) is applied perpendicular to the fluid flow, causing particles to migrate with different velocities. Fields of sedimentation, diffusion, and electrical diffusion are manipulated to optimize the separations of microbes. Separation of Pseudomonas putida and E. coli has been achieved by hyperlayer FFF. Fractions of the whole cells were collected after the separation at different time intervals, dif-... [Pg.62]
