Fibroid hemorrhagic

Superior to DSA, MRI can depict arterial flow or lumen as well as the vessel walls. Analysis of plaque morphology was improved in recent years by the development of specific MRI techniques. Plaques can now be characterized in vivo with regard to fibroid or lipid content or hemorrhagic lesions (Fig. 5.8). It can be expected that, in the future, plaque examination will influence stroke treatment protocols if the risk of plaque rupture can be reliably estimated (Cappendijk et al. 2005 Hayes et al. 1996 Trivedi et al. 2004 Yuan et al. 2001). Plaque examinations, however, are not yet clinical routine. Source images of TOF-MRA allow only limited assessment of vascular walls.

Fibroids can affect fertility and the incidence of miscarriage. The efficacy of UFE on pregnancy and fertility has yet to be fully established [113]. Patients who have had UFE have become pregnant and had successful deliveries [6, 7]. The ability of women treated with uterine artery embolization for different types of obstetrical or gynecological hemorrhage to conceive and deliver successfully is well-known and long-term follow-up is already available [114,... 

Uterine artery embolization (UAE) is an established technique that has been used to stop life-threatening vaginal hemorrhage in women with malignancy, postpartum uterine atony, or traumatic injury since the mid-1970s [8,18,52,64,112]. The first successful treatment of symptomatic fibroids of the uterus by UAE was reported by Ravina et al. in 1994 [150].
