In summary, stable fibrillar aggregates were obtained from all macro monomers A-E, which had end groups capable of N—H 0=C type hydrogen bonding. [Pg.89]

The amyloidoses are a class of conformational diseases that arise from the conversion of normally unfolded or globular proteins into fibrillar aggregates that are either pathogenic or non-functional. At present there are more than 20 proteins that are associated with human amyloid diseases. This review focuses on three natively unfolded proteins that form fibrillar aggregates amyloid-, islet amyloid polypeptide ( amylin ), and a-synuclein, the diseases they contribute to and chemical and biophysical approaches that are used to investigate these proteins aggregation. [Pg.2094]

In both the schemes, the intermediates lead to the formation of amorphous and fibrillar aggregates that causes light chain deposition disease and light chain... [Pg.2480]

Another property of fibronectin is its ability to assemble at nucleation sites on the cell surface into disulfide cross-linked fibrillar aggregates independently of interactions... [Pg.530]

An idealised structure (Figure 11.120) shows that they must have an anisotropic (bipolar) structure, which explains a strong tendency to form aggregates, especially linearly arranged, fibrillar aggregates to screen the charges. [Pg.623]
