Fiber formation drawing process

The fibers are usually round-shaped and their diameter can be set easily by adjusting the process parameters [25]. It is a single-step technology which means that fiber formation, drawing and the deposition of fibers (formation of textile structure) occur simultaneously and almost in the same place. Fibers are deposited randomly because of the stochastic nature of fiber formation. If the aim is to produce nanofibrous non woven mats, this method has the benefit of saving cost and time, and requires only a simple apparatus. 

Mechanical Properties. Polyester fibers are formed by melt spinning generally followed by hot drawing and heat setting to the final fiber form. The molecular orientation and crystalline fine stmcture developed depend on key process parameters in all fiber formation steps and are critical to the end use appHcation of the fibers. 

Apart from the above-mentioned fiber formation techniques, biomaterial fibers may be produced by other techniques. Among these, biospinning plays an important role. Biospinning is defined as the process of direct fiber drawing from the spinning glands of various insects such as silkworms and spiders [37]. Biospun fibers, eg, from Bombyx mori silkworms, have been traditionally used as suture material [38].
