Erythema fentanyl

Transdermal fentanyl has an adverse effects profile similar to that associated with parenteral administration (SEDA-20, 77). Local erythema and rash have been reported (43), as well as the usual opioid adverse effects. However, an unusual reaction, with progressive agitation to acute delirium, has occurred (SEDA-20, 79). [Pg.1350]

Transdermal fentanyl avoids the discomfort of injections and reduces fluctuations in drug concentrations. In an open study of transdermal fentanyl patches 50 pg for postoperative pain management in 15 thoracotomy patients, two patients had nausea and one had erythema over the site of apphcation of the patch (55). [Pg.1351]

Immunologic A 46-year-old woman had an IgE-mediated hypersensitivity reaction to transdermal fentanyl and developed generalized erythema and bronchospasm 4 hours after the application of transdermal fentanyl. In preparation for another surgical procedure, skin tests were carried out [90 ]. A prick test for fentanyl was negative, but an intradermal test was positive. There was also cross-reactivity to sufentanil. The delay in response between application and the onset of symptoms was believed to be due to the cutaneous route of administration. [Pg.155]
