Fast charge cell testing

The characteristics of the 50-Ah LTO cell from Altaimano used in the fast charging tests are given in Table 3.6. The cell had a resistance of about 0.9 mO resulting in a Cr value of 0.045, which is typical for lithium cells, but not particularly low for an LTO cell (see Table 3.2). The Ah capacity of the cell varied little with discharge rate up to 6C. Based on the test results in Section 3, it is reasonable to expect that the 50-Ah cell would have good fast charging characteristics. 

Because the service is performed against preset parameters, the batteries are charged and discharged under true field conditions, a feature that provides accurate test results as well as fast service. Batteries with shorted, mismatched or soft cells are identified in minutes, their deficiencies displayed and, if necessary, the service halted. The derived battery capacities are organized into residual nd final capacities. Problems, such as insufficient capacity reserve at the end of field use, are easily identified to allow necessary corrections. 

Three common methods [cyclic voltammetry (CV), charging-discharging curve (CDC), and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS)] are briefly introduced. For fast screening of electrode materials, the conventional ex situ three-electrode cell is the choice test method. For in situ characterization of materials and supercapacitor performance, the two-electrode test cell can more closely represent the real conditions encountered during operation.
