Farming systems technology

In the light of what has been discussed, pursuing sustainability in agricultural systems appears as a still ill-defined but inescapable task, to be based as far as possible on a global approach to farming systems, harmoniously combining all the resources offered by science and technology. 

At the same time I think that much of the potential of GE plants is lost in conventional systems that continue to use pesticides and synthetic fertilizers. To maximize the benefit of GE plants they would best be integrated into an organic farming system. In this way there is a complementation of practices and technology—the organic practices protect the environment and the GE technology helps reduce crop losses to disease or environmental stress. 

Medicinal plants being new to the farming systems, a lot of support by way of technology dissemination, capacity building, production of quality planting material and its certification is required. To meet these requirements, Medicinal Plants Facilitation Centre is required to establish, which may act as a one-stop shop for the problems of farmers and other stakeholders of medicinal plants.
