Family data

The ChemicalF hstracts database does not have an on-line family capabUity, but does pubHsh a patent index, with family data obtained from INPADOC. Printed patent indexes have been including family information since the 1960s, but the number of countries covered before 1970 was limited. 

A family data set is a grouping of models and data for a problem (plant or system). To select a family, from the File menu choose Select Database. The Select Family dialog appears with the name of the currently selected family in the title bar. Choose the desired family from the list by double-clicking" the name. A pop-up menu appears from which the following options may be...

Using experimental approaches, family data or stastistical methods, the correct pairing of SNPs can be determined. In this example, if SNP1 A and SNP2 G alleles are in positive LD, and SNP1 G and SNP2 T alleles are in positive LD, then the chromosomes will look like this ... 

Because the mutation itself is detected, family data are not necessary. Direct diagnosis can be performed on any individual.

The use of nuclear family data in association studies was initially developed to avoid possible ethnic mismatching between patients and randomly ascertained controls (76). The parental marker alleles not transmitted to an affected child, or never transmitted to an affected sib pair, form the so-called AFBAC population (19,20) (Fig. 1). In a random mating population, when there is a marker association with disease, the AFBAC population provides an unbiased estimate of the overall population (control) marker alleles when the recombination fraction between the marker and disease genes is sufficiently small that it can be taken as zero (0 = 0), and differences between patient and AFBAC frequencies can be tested for example by a contingency table analysis for heterogeneity.

Statistical analysis of familial data by Scott (SI 3) led to the conclusion that the type I and type II silent cholinesterases (referred to by Scott as type O and type T, respectively) are allelic to one another and, by extension, to the Ey gene (S16). As indicated above, and in Section 2.7, some populations have an unexpectedly high incidence of a silent cholinesterase gene (A17, G33, PI, S17). 

Polysiloxanes are among the most flexible polymers known and this is reflected by the very low glass-transition temperatures of this polymer family. Data for some representative examples of polysiloxanes along with some related polymers are given in Table 6.2. 

Through the conversion of the patent family data and the achievement of the hyperbolic tree algorithm, the patent family visualization could be carried out in Priority mode and State mode , shown in Figure 4 and Figure 5. 

Available family data corroborate this statement (Fig. 4). 

Both the family data from the vital records and the diagnostic data from the health records have inherent merits and limitations. These need to be recognized if appropriate use is to be made of such sources on a large scale, either alone or in conjunction with information obtained in a more conventional ad hoc fashion.
