Failure Filament

The secondary and subsidiary lights can be equipped with an automatic lamp changer or multiple filament bulb. This provides a minimum of one standby lamp or filament which will be automatically activated in the event of a filament failure. Filament failure should produce an alarm in the central control room and the radio room until a defective bulb is replaced. [Pg.465]

By comparison, the multiple spinnerette per bank process requites additional effort prior to laydown in order to compensate for the gaps between the individual spinnerettes. Failure to present a filament array to the laydown screen, which is not uniformly distributed, can result in spot-to-spot variations in fiber density and a web that has the appearance of blotch. [Pg.167]

A number of limitations are imposed by the construction of the instrument and its operating parts, including such factors as fully charged or new dry cell batteries, replacement of drying agents or other chemicals and, of course, how well the moving or consumable parts such as filaments have been maintained. Most instrument failures from these causes can be prevented by routine care and maintenance, and by periodic calibrations. [Pg.278]

In addition to developing solid RP structures, work has been conducted on sandwich structures such as filament-wound plastic skins with low-density foamed core or a plastic honeycomb core to develop more efficient strength-to-weight structures. Sandwich structures using a syntactic core have been successfully tested so that failures occurred at prescribed high-hydrostatic pressures of 28 MPa (4,000 psi). [Pg.112]

The screening method based on diameter of halos yielded only five strains with at least 20% more PG than wild t> e. Most attempts to enhance pectinase production have been made in filamentous fiingi, in which enzyme production is regulated by induction and catabolite repression mechanisms [8], By contrast, PG produced by marxianus is constitutive and not subject to catabolite repression [6], Failure to find greatly enhanced secretion levels is consistent with the idea of a constitutive gene that is capable of only modest further induction. PG was found in this study to be already the most prolific secreted protein of K. marxianus. [Pg.868]

The above observations may be interpreted as follows. Prior to rupture in the glass/epoxy system, the stressed specimen suffers minor failures (primarily fiber breakage and epoxy cracking) which produce EE similar to that of the pure components. These failures accumulate, leading to strand rupture and a large amount of interfacial failure between filaments and epoxy. It is this latter form of... [Pg.154]

There are several resources available for designing filament-wound cylinders. In general, filament-wound cylinders are classified as cylindrically orthotropic. Adjacent helical plies, loading conditions can be determined by following the principles of laminated plate theory [7]. When applying laminated plate theory, the plate consists of the cylinder wall. In this case, the effect of cylinder curvature is neglected, and the Q and z axes are considered the planar axes of the plate. Failure criteria applied in laminated plate theory, such as maximum stress or strain, or the quadratic Tsai-Wu failure criteria [7] may also be applied. Several specialized loading cases have been studied. [Pg.396]

Typical residual gas analyzers employ electron impact to generate ions and a quadrupole mass filter to obtain the mass-to-charge ratio of these species. Mass ranges for these analyzers vary 2-80 atomic mass units for small units 1-500 on larger, more expensive gas analyzers. Electron impact ionization of the gas is achieved using a hot filament as the source. Many instruments are equipped with a second filament which can be switched into use in the event of a failure of the first. When a robust detector of moderate sensitivity is needed, a... [Pg.77]
