Extruded polypropylene

Honeycombs are structures with hexagonal or cylindrical cells made from thin sheets of aluminium, aramid (Nomex), paper or extruded polypropylene. The dimensions of the cells are generally in the range of 5 mm to 10 mm. The two faces are covered with a firmly adherent composite (or sometimes metal) skin. [Pg.809]

For example, if an intermeshing co-rotating twin-screw extruder extrudes polypropylene resin at a specific energy of 600 J g , and the measured discharge temperature of the polypropylene melt is 260 C, then about 120 J g must have been transferred out through the barrel wall as an energy flux. [Pg.304]

Draw resonance n. A phenomenon occurring in film and filament extrusion in which the extrudate is drawn into a quenching bath at a certain critical speed that creates a cyclic pulsation in the cross-sectional area of the extrudate. The pulsation increases with rising drawing speed until the filament or film eventually breaks at the bath surface. Draw resonance has been observed while extruding polypropylene, polyethylene, and polystyrene. [Pg.326]

Being a general-purpose plastic, polypropylene has found applications in almost every field in which plastics are used. Polypropylene has found wide use in the textile industry, where it is successfully competing with rayon and other synthetic fibers as well as the natural fibers. This is particularly true in the carpet industry. The largest use of extruded polypropylene is in thin-film packaging. [Pg.443]

An extruded polypropylene film is stretched first in the machine direction, followed by a second stretching in the transverse direction. The resulting material shows highly orientated crystallites and no, or very little, spherulitic superstructure, which results in the film having both a higher Young s modulus and transparency. [Pg.35]
