Expression, continuous

The deterministic and discrete expressions for the slopes, and hence the half-lives, are thus not identical, but since mathematically when x is much smaller than unity (i.e., x transition probability x = Pr is very small compared to 1, the continuous (deterministic) and discrete expressions yield essentially the same values. When Pt is not small compared to 1, the continuous and discrete solutions will differ. For the case Pt = 0.10, the half-life solutions are ti/2 = 6.93 and i/2 = 6.58 iteration, a noticeable difference of 5%. For Pt = 0.01, t /2 = 69.31 and i/2 = 68.97 iterations, there exists a difference of just 0.5%. For still smaller values of Pp, the difference between the two expressions continues to decrease. [Pg.114]

Also in need of further study is the function of Mos in male germ cells. It appears that Mos is expressed prior to meiosis of spermatocytes, consistent with the possibility that it acts in the initiation of meiosis and/or during progression from meiosis I to meiosis II. However, c-mos expression continues in postmeiotic spermatids, where it does not induce metaphase II arrest. This may be due to the absence of other components of cytostatic factor, but the role of c-mos expression in postmeiotic male germ cells remains unclear. [Pg.143]

Evidence that methylation can suppress normal and malignant gene expression, and demethylation can bring about expression, continues to build (28-30), although expression is not always related to state of methylation ( 31, 32). [Pg.42]

Here, n is a unit normal vector at the interstitial phase boundary Sp, if any, across which the kinematic viscosity v(r) is possibly discontinuous, whereas the generic symbol h denotes either P or j. Equation (8.15) expresses continuity of the pertinent fields across the unit cell faces dr0. In Eq. (8.15), m is to be chosen such that Rm, = Rm - I is a basic lattice vector [cf. Eq. (7.1)]. [Pg.60]

The fraction of the exit stream that has resided in the reactor for a period of time shorter than a given value t is equal to the sum over all times less than t of E t) At, or expressed continuously. [Pg.819]

The expression continuous flow analysis and the corresponding acronym CFA have often been used to specify this mode of flow analysis, in accordance with official recommendations [15]. A historical survey... [Pg.16]

The first part of the name is a verb that describes the action to be taken (in this example, the operative verb is the word Start )- The verb can be either in the imperative tense (as in this example), or could express continuous action—which in this case would be Starting. Either is acceptable, but a consistent approach should be followed throughout. [Pg.320]

In order to determine the parameters, a,=(ai, a2,j,a3,(,a4,/, of eqs. (1) and (2), the following equations are stated Eq. (3) expresses continuity of the stock line at r = r, and eq. (4) that the radar (subscript r) measurement, z,=z(rr), should be satisfied after the dump has entered (superscript a). The volume of the charged dump should satisfy eq. (5), where superscript p denotes the conditions prior to the dump, m is the mass and p is the bulk density of the material. Finally, the angle of the burden surface given by... [Pg.678]

The conditions for mean applied perturbation amplitude at the membrane interface (perturbation of the total potential loss in the system) and zero perturbation of proton current at the CCL/GDL interface. The first of the conditions (5.155) means a zero oxygen flux in the membrane, while the second one expresses continuity of the oxygen concentration at the CCL/GDL interface. Here, is the perturbation of the... [Pg.431]

In experimental designs the factors can be qualitative or quantitative. If one is interested in whether the type of chromatographic column has an effect on the quality of an analytical procedure, then the factors are qualitative. If the factor can be expressed continuously, as is the case with the pH, then the factor is quantitative. Situations exist where in the same experimental design some factors are qualitative and the others are quantitative. [Pg.969]
