Expander peak power

What happens if the expander were operating at peak power so that the exeess power supplied to the generator is represented by line B1 Assume afterburning oeeurs to eause a temperature rise. In the events that follow, there will be variations deteetable in the blower horsepower requirements, but they will be small eompared to the others that oeeur. If the unit was in lined-out operation before the afterburning oeeurred, the operators will be reluetant to disturb the regenerator-reaetor balanee. [Pg.169]

To make up the difference between the expected expander returned power and the required compressor input power. Meruit designed an air system using a commercially available positive-displacement compressor driven by an electric motor in tandem with Meruit s turbocompressor. Meruit designed a family of compressor and expander wheels with var5dng characteristics (specific speed, dimensional ratios, etc.) representing different compromises in providing performance compatible with the DOE specifications. After extensive evaluation, a compressor wheel was chosen to provide a desired pressure curve over a wide range of mass flows, and a turbine wheel was matched to it. The chosen compressor wheel is intended to trade peak efficiency for extended turndown performance. [Pg.501]

This popular technique is used for the analysis of solid or liquid surfaces. Its technique can be summarized as follows (Fig. 1.60) A pulsed laser with high peak power is focussed onto the surface and evaporates electrons, neutral atoms or molecules and ions. The emitted particles form a hot plasma (up to 100,000 K), which expands and cools down, reaching soon thermal equilibrium at about 10,000 K. [Pg.76]

The horizontal dispersion of a plume has been modeled by the use of expanding cells well mixed vertically, with the chemistry calculated for each cell (31). The resulting simulation of transformation of NO to NO2 in a power plant plume by infusion of atmospheric ozone is a peaked distribution of NO2 that resembles a plume of the primary pollutants, SO2 and NO. The ozone distribution shows depletion across the plume, with maximum depletion in the center at 20 min travel time from the source, but relatively uniform ozone concentrations back to initial levels at travel distances 1 h from the source. [Pg.330]
