Vision exercise

MANAGING THROMOOEMOOLIC EFFECTS. The nurse monitors the patient for signs of thromboembolic effects, such as pain, swelling, tenderness in die extremities, headache, chest pain, and blurred vision. These adverse effects are reported to die primary health care provider. Patients with previous venous insufficiency, who are on bed rest for other medical reasons, or who smoke are at increased risk for tiiromboembolic effects. The nurse encourages the patient to elevate the lower extremities when sitting, if possible, and to exercise the lower extremities by walking. 

Some ophthalmic drugs produce blurring of vision, which can result in falls and other injuries. The nurse warns patients to exercise care when getting out of bed when the vision is impaired by these drugp. Patients using the pilocarpine ocular therapeutic system must have the system replaced every 7 days (see Chap. 24). The system is inserted at bedtime because myopia (nearsightedness) occurs for several hours after insertion. 

Anyone who must take diuretics for therapeutic purposes should take the proper precautions when exercising. This includes adequate and regular intake of water, sports drinks, or other non-caffeinated fluids loose and comfortable clothing adequate rest periods and awareness of the signs of heat exhaustion (clammy and cool skin, fatigue, nausea, weakness, confusion, vision disturbances, and a possible loss of consciousness). 

Drawing up the blueprint also sets a common language and communicates the shared vision for the level of operational excellence required across the production network. It provides a clear idea of the company s future operating system. Company executives also benefit, as it sets their individual activities in an overarching context. Finally, a blueprint can be codified and expert groups can be established to help roll it out globally. However, caution must be exercised so that this does not lead to yet another corporate standard that is not appropriate for the local sites, and therefore is never realized. 

Care should be exercised when treating patients with hypothyroidism, malnutrition, hypothermia, and impaired renal or hepatic dysfunction. Glyceryltrinitrates should not be given to patients with severe hypotension, hypovolemia, marked anemia, or heart failure. Adverse effects of glyceryltrinitrates include flushing of the face, dizziness, tachycardia, and throbbing headache. Overdose may induce vomiting, restlessness, blurred vision, severe hypertension, syncope, impairment of respiration, and bradycardia. 

After a rise in the core body temperature by as little as 0.1 °C, there may be an exacerbation of demyelinating-type symptoms, including visual blm, dimming of vision, diplopia, and nystagmus This is known as Uhthoff s symptom and may occur from hot showers, exercise, and simbathing.
