A new feature is the liberal supply of problems for student solution—about 50 per chapter. This idea has been purloined from the excellent physical chemistry textbook by Peter Atkins (W. H. Freeman). There are exercises, practice in the use of the chapter s equations problems (the chapter s material related to actual situations) and finally, a few much more difficult tasks which are called microresearch problems, each one of which may take some hours to solve. 

Student Solutions Manual (Thomas J. Hummel, University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign) (ISBN-10 0-547-16856-X ISBN-13 978-0-547-16856-2) This manual provides detailed solutions for half of the end-of-chapter exercises (designated by the blue question numbers), using the strategies emphasized in the text. This supplement has been thoroughly checked for precision and accuracy. Answers to the For Review questions can be found on the student website. 

This book is based on my own lecture course for chemical engineers at the Fach-hochschule Mannheim (Mannheim University of Applied Sciences M.U.A.S) and is intended for students of chemistry, industrial chemistry, and process engineering, as well as chemists, engineers, and technicians in industry who are involved with catalysts. Largely dispensing with complex theoretical and mathematical treatments, the book describes the fundamental principles of catalysis in an easy to understand fashion. Numerous examples and exercises with solutions serve to consolidate the understanding of the material. The book is particularly well suited to studying on one s own.
