Example of Optimization and a Choice between Alternatives

In Section 6.2 we considered a qualitative choice between alternatives. We end this chapter with a quantitative example of a choice between (1) raising the current density to cover the loss of a cell during maintenance and (2) installing a standby cell. The example starts with optimizing the current density for a filter press type cell as in Example 6.3.1, but this time the cell is operated continuously. The required conversion is 50%. [Pg.286]

Continuous reactor operating with a conversion Xp of 0.5, a recycle of 50%, and an availability 360 days per annum. [Pg.286]

Feed flow rate consistent with production rate, Q = 5.144 x 10 mVs [Pg.286]

Reactor type filter press type with 1 of active cathode and 1 of active anode surface per module [Pg.287]

Anode electrode potential assumed equal to the electrode potential E at the cathode (calculations later showed that E could be adequately represented by E = O.OeiSi + 0.207 V with i in kA/m ) [Pg.287]
