Fading events

Volume and Pan envelopes (as well as FX envelopes) are track-level envelopes— that is, they run across an entire track, affecting every event in that track. Individual events can also be quickly faded in or out using event fade envelopes, otherwise known as Attack-Sustain-Release (ASR) envelopes. To create an event fade, move the mouse cursor over the upper (left or right) corner of an event. The cursor changes to the special event fade cursor (see Figure 4.4). Drag the fade envelope in towards the center of the event. 

By default, the blue envelope line that appears on the event is curved. Like track-level envelopes, the shape of the envelope can be changed. Both types of fades (track and event level) sound the same in the final mix. To change the event fade envelope shape, right-click the envelope and select Fade Type from the context menu. Then, from the snbmenu, click on the shape of the fade you want (see Figure 4.5). From top to bottom, these correspond to track envelope Fast (default). Linear, and Slow fades. If you right-click when the event fade cursor is visible (see Figure 4.4), the event fade type menu appears immediately as the context menu. 

Extending the event further and then splitting the event between notes can frequently be easier than simply extending an event. Click the event to move the timeline cursor to the split position and press S on your keyboard. Use an Event Fade envelope (ASR) to trim tbe edges of the event more seamlessly, especially if there isn t a clean break between beats 1 and 2. Of course, this particular technique is highly dependent upon finding loops that are suitable, but there are many loops in many different genres that will work.

What would happen if you came too close to a black hole Like an ancient ant trapped in amber, I would see you permanently frozen at the event horizon, and your image would gradually fade. In actuality, your body would pierce the event horizon as you plunged toward the singularity at the center of the black hole. At the heart of the black hole is a place where time and space stop, and all the known laws of physics break down, a place roughly a hundred billion billion times smaller than an atomic nucleus surrounded by void. 

Some people who take psychedelics, especially LSD, later become worried about flashbacks — brief recurrences of psychedelic symptoms that may include visual cliangcs and "spacy" feelings. Anxiety about these experiences is more the problem than the flashbacks themselves. Actually, many people who have never taken hallucinogenic drugs also have flashbacks or experiences very much like them, which makes it seem that these are normal events in the nervous system. The best treatment for flashbacks is reassurance that nothing is seriously wrong. As people worry less about their symptoms, they pay less attention to them, and soon the flashbacks themselves fade away. 

Radical disproportionation induced by electron transfer. Several interesting and interrelated phenomena occur when N J I, N -tetramethyl-1,4-phenylenediamine (TMPD) is added to the solution of [CpM(CO)3l2 prior to the laser flash. As expected from the electrode potential of TMPD /TMPD, 0.16 V vs SSCE in acetonitrile, the first event is the rapid growth of the intense absorption band of the amine radical cation centered at 613 nm (e = 1.2 X 10 L mol cm" ). This absorption then fades fairly rapidly. The fading was quite unexpected, since TMPD " normally persists indefinitely. This phenomenon is illustrated in Figure 2. Indeed, when independently-prepared TMPD was injected into the cuvette after the laser flash its blue color persisted indefinitely. 

This kind of association is so automatic that we do not usually notice it, and it takes a look at mental state is similar to that of the deeply hypnotized subject whose CRO has faded into relative inactivity. A person in a life-threatening situation may genuinely and intensely pray, Dear God, save my loved one s life and I will never sin again The loved one recovers (an event that may or may not have any relation to this prayer), the stress disappears, and the promise never to sin again fades away. We do not remember (all of) our selves. This lack of control over emotions is related to the alterations in our false personalities, of course, since most false personalities have specific emotional cores. 

Many changes of matter happen. An ice cube melts. Your bicycle s spokes rust. A red shirt fades. Water fogs a mirror. Milk sours. Scientists who study these and many other events classify them by two broad categories physical changes and chemical changes. 

The historical record fades rapidly with time and virtually disappears for events of more than a few thousand years ago. Much of our understanding of prehistory comes from a technique called radioisotopic dating, which uses radioisotopes to determine the age of an object. The method supplies data in fields as diverse as art history, archeology, geology, and paleontology. 

The units of construction of films are scenes that have beginnings and middles and ends and their ov m rhythms and climaxes. In a story like The Donner Party, when you ve had one climax, you need to fade out and have that moment of emotional pause and closure. Film is essentially musical, like any temporal art form. It s all about incremental progressive effect of all the events that make up the flow. Do you need a beat Will the flow become too relentless if there s not that pause Do I need to receive the information I was receiving in that last scene at a slightly statelier pace, or do I need to speed it up What you re trying to enhance, it seems to me, is the axis of clarity and the axis of emotion. Because the two are totally related. The clearer the event, the more powerful the emotional impact of it. 

Note that, the probabiUties for fixed m and aU n and i do not exactly add up to one. This is caused by the fact that these events are not independent. The event that the system faUs is under the condition that the system has not faded with n-1 faults.
