Production capacities for toluene in western Europe in 1994 were reported as (thousand tonnes) Austria, 4 Belgium, 73 France, 65 Germany, 1185 Italy, 495 the Netherlands, 255 Portugal, 140 Spain, 280 and United Kingdom, 555 (Fabri etal., 1996). Production in the United States in 1993 was reported to be 2277 thousand tonnes (United States International Trade Commission, 1994). Information available in 1995 indicated that toluene was produced in 35 countries (Chemical Information Sen-ices, 1995). [Pg.830]

Silcretes have been documented in every continent except Antarctica (Table 4.6), but are most widespread in the interior, west and southeast of Australia. Silcrete is also common in the Kalahari and Cape coastal areas of southern Africa, and has been described in various parts of North Africa. In Europe, silcretes occur in Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, The Netherlands, Slovakia, Spain, Portugal and the UK. Silcretes have also been noted in parts of North and South America and Asia.
