Ethylenebis complex

Figure 14.5 (a) Reaction of Al,Al -ethylenebis(3-Bu -salicylideniminato)cobalt(II) with dioxygen and pyridine to form the superoxo complex [Co(3-Bu Salen)2(02)py] the py ligand is almost coplanar with the Co-O-O plane, the angle between the two being 18°.< (b) Reversible formation of the peroxo complex [Ir(C0)Cl(02)(PPh3)2]. The more densely shaded part of the complex is accurately coplanar. ... [Pg.617]

The Jacobsen-Katsuki epoxidation reaction is an efficient and highly selective method for the preparation of a wide variety of structurally and electronically diverse chiral epoxides from olefins. The reaction involves the use of a catalytic amount of a chiral Mn(III)salen complex 1 (salen refers to ligands composed of the N,N -ethylenebis(salicylideneaminato) core), a stoichiometric amount of a terminal oxidant, and the substrate olefin 2 in the appropriate solvent (Scheme 1.4.1). The reaction protocol is straightforward and does not require any special handling techniques. [Pg.29]

The first isolable alkenetitanium complex, the bis(pentamethylcyclopentadienyl)-titanium—ethylene complex 5, was prepared by Bercaw et al. by reduction of bis(penta-methylcyclopentadienyl)titanium dichloride in toluene with sodium amalgam under an atmosphere of ethylene (ca. 700 Torr) or from ( (n-C5Mc5)2Ti 2(fJ-N2)2 by treatment with ethylene [42], X-ray crystal structure analyses of 5 and of the ethylenebis(aryloxy)trimethyl-phosphanyltitanium complex 6 [53] revealed that the coordination of ethylene causes a substantial increase in the carbon—carbon double bond length from 1.337(2) A in free ethylene to 1.438(5) A and 1.425(3) A, respectively. Considerable bending of the hydrogen atoms out of the plane of the ethylene molecule is also observed. By comparison with structural data for other ethylene complexes and three-membered heterocyclic compounds, the structures of 5 and 6 would appear to be intermediate along the continuum between a Ti(11)-ethylene (4A) and a Ti(IV)-metallacyclopropane (4B) (Scheme 11.1) as... [Pg.391]

Oxo-vanadium derivatives include numerous examples of Schiff base complexes, the importance of which is increasing in that they can act as insulin-enhancing agents.3 For instance, the vanadyl(IV) derivatives of TV.TV -ethylenebisCsalicylideneimine), [VO(salen)], A TV -disalicylidene-o-phenylenediamine, [VO(saloph)], and iV,Ar -ethylenebis(acetylaceto-natoimine), [VO(acen)], are shown in Scheme 1. [Pg.220]

The tetracoordinated complexes of iron can also assume planar (or pseudoplanar) geometry. Typical examples are the Fe(II) complexes of the already discussed Schiff bases A,A -ethylenebis(salicylideneimine), salen, and A,./V -disalicylidene-<3-phenylenediamine, saloph. [Pg.264]
