2-Ethyl-l-pentanol

Note that there is a longer chain (six carbon atoms), but the —OH group is not directly attached to it. The five-carbon chain makes the alcohol a pentanol. The —OH group is on carbon number 1 hence, the compound is a 1-pentanol. An ethyl group is attached to carbon number 2 of the chain, so the final name is 2-ethyl-l-pentanol. [Pg.104]

Alcohols 1-butanol, 1-pentanol, 1-hexanol, 2-ethyl-l-hexanol, 1-heptanol, 1-octanol, 1- decanol, l-methoxy-2-propanol, butoxyethanol, ethoxyethanol, 2- (2-butoxyethoxy) ethanol, benzyl alcohol, 1-dodecanol, 1-tetradecanol, 1-pentadecanol, 1-hexadecanol, 1-octadecanol... [Pg.407]

Distillation of the products yielded 14.89 g. b.p. 140-160° (b.p. hexanol, 157° 2-methyl-l-pentanol, 148° 2-ethyl-l-butanol, 147°). A sample of this distillate was analyzed by mass spectrometry and was shown to contain 1-hexanol, 65.3% 2-methyl-l-pentanol, 30.1% 2-ethyl-l-butanol, 3.3% hexane, 0.3% heptane, 1.0%. This accounted for 31.8% alcohols recovered, based on total added olefin. Thus, a total of 71.27 % of the added olefin was recovered either as unreacted olefins or alcohols. [Pg.612]

Hexanol. The most important isomers are hexanol [111-27-3], 2-ethyl-l-butanol [97-95-0] and methylisobutylcarbinol [/05-//-2] (4-methyl-2-pentanol). Hexanol is a high boiler and is used to improve the flow and surface properties of paints it is also used as a solvent for fats, waxes, and dyes. [Pg.356]

In Figure 44, the use of 2-ethyl-l-hexanol, 1-octanol and 2-decanol as nonsolvent additives produces higher surface tensions resulting in higher pure O2/N2 permeance rate ratios. On the other hand, lower surface tensions resulting in lower pure O2/N2 permeance rate ratios are reflected in the use of 2-propanol, 2,4-dimethyl-3-pentanol, 2-methyl-3-hexanol and 2-methyl-2-hexanol as nonsolvent additives. [Pg.285]
