In order to study the effect of iron on the utilization of ethanol more closely, FeCl, was added at various levels to glucose-containing medium. The presence of iron did not affect the levels to which ethanol accumulated from glucose (24 h) [Figure 2] however the subsequent utilization of ethanol was inhibited in proportion to the level of iron present. It is possible that iron may interfere with some early stage of ethanol utilization thereby leading to delayed ethyl acetate accumulation. [Pg.256]
