Ethane percent composition

A 0.732 g mixture of methane, CH4, and ethane, C2H6, is burned, yielding 2.064 g CO2. What is the percent composition of this mixture (a) by mass (b) on a mole basis ... [Pg.108]

Heat Release Rate From Fuel Gas. The fuel gas used in these tests was a mixture of natural gas supplied by the local gas company. This gas mixture contains approximately 90 percent methane and small fractions of ethane, propane, butane, C02, and nitrogen, as analyzed by Brenden and Chamberlain (6). Although composition of the gas changes with time, the changes were small in our case. A statistical sample of gross heat of combustion of fuel gas over several months showed a coefficient of variation of 0.7 percent. Also, the gross heat of combustion of natural gas reported by the gas company on the day of the test did not vary significantly from test to test. Thus, we assumed that the net heat of combustion was constant. [Pg.420]

The probability of an RPT depends upon the composition of the more volatile, cold liquid (e.g., ethane poured on water simply boils whereas ethane with a few percent n-butane undergoes a violent RPT). [Pg.124]

When the temperature exceeds the critical temperature of one component, the saturation envelope does not go all the way across the diagram rather, the dew-point and bubble-point lines join at a critical point. For instance, when the critical temperature of a mixture of methane and ethane is minus 100°F, the critical pressure is 750 psia, and the composition of the critical mixture is 95 mole percent methane and 5 mole percent ethane. [Pg.71]

EXAMPLE 2-7 Determine the compositions and quantities of gas and liquid formed when 3 lb moles of mixture of 70 mole percent methane and 30 mole percent ethane are brought to equilibrium at —10(fF and 400 psia. [Pg.71]

Excess isotherms are shown on Figure 4 for binary mixtures of ethylene and ethane adsorbed on NaX. Both curves are for 20°C and a vapor composition of 10 mole percent ethylene. The individual excess isotherm for ethylene is the difference between two isotherms. [Pg.48]

Ethane is initially mixed with oxygen to obtain a gas containing 80% C2 He and 20% O2 that is then burned in an engine with 200% excess air. Eighty percent of the ethane goes to CO2, 10% goes to CO, and 10% remains unburned. Calculate the composition of the exhaust gas on a wet basis. [Pg.144]

A solution has the following composition, expressed as mole percent ethane, 0.25% propane, 25% isobutane, 18.5% n-butane, 56% isopentane, 0.25%. In the following, the pressure is 10 bar. Use equation (6-118) and Table 6.8 to calculate equilibrium distribution coefficients. [Pg.409]

The composition of natural gas is predominantly methane, and also contains several percent ethane and propane. In addition, minor amounts of butane and higher hydrocarbons are present, plus carbon dioxide and nitrogen. [Pg.3]

Components in a gas-condensate fluid contain hydrocarbons from methane, C, ethane, C2, and other hydrocarbons as heavy as or Qo or even heavier. Reservoir crudes may contain hydrocarbons as heavy as C oo- At room temperature (75T) and atmospheric pressure, Cl, C2, C3, and C4 are in the gas state, nC to nC- are in the liquid state, and normal alkanes heavier than nC- are in the solid state. The broad volatility and melting-point range of these hydrocarbon components found in petroleum fluids cause formations of gas, liquid, and solid phases in response to changes in pressure, temperature, or composition. Let us consider a mixture of two hydrocarbons—nC and nC. The melting-point temperature of nC. is 57" C at atmospheric pressure. The solubility of n Cqs in nC at atmospheric pressure is 0.5 mole percent at 14"C. At 40"C and atmospheric pressure, the solubility of nC2R in increases to 12 mole percent. [it is therefore natural that when the temperature falls, heavy hydrocarbons in a crude or even a gas condensate may precipitate as wax crystals. In the petroleum industry, wax precipitation is undesirable because it may plug the pipeline and processing equipment.)... [Pg.296]

A natural gas mixture consists of 90.0 mole percent CH4 (methane) and 10.0 mole percent C2H6 (ethane). Suppose water is saturated with the gas mixture at 20°C and 1.00 atm total pressure, and the gas is then expelled from the water by heating. What is the composition in mole fractions of the gas mixture that is expelled The solubilities of CH4 and C2Hg at 20°C and... [Pg.520]
