Silver nitrite gives a mixture of ethyl nitrite and nitro ethane (p. 131). [Pg.104]

The simpler nitrop>arafIins (nitromethane, nitroethane, 1- and 2-nitroproj)ane) are now cheap commercial products. They are obtained by the vapour phase nitration of the hydrocarbons a gaseous mixture of two mols of hydrocarbon and 1 mol of nitric acid vapour is passed through a narrow reaction tube at 420-476°. Thus with methane at 476° a 13 per cent, conversion into nitro methane is obtained ethane at 420° gives a 9 1 mixture of nitroethane (b.p. 114°) and nitromethane (b.p. 102°) propane at 420° afifords a 21 per cent, yield of a complex mixture of 1- (b.p. 130-6°) and 2-nitropropane (b.p. 120°), nitroethane and nitromethane, which are separated by fractional distillation. [Pg.303]

That aminals and enamines are in equilibrium under certain conditions has been demonstrated (38). l,l-Di(N-morpholino)ethane 18, when heated with excess diethylamine for 24 hr at 60 and then treated with 4-nitro-phenylazide, gave the triazole (19) in 80% yield. The authors contend that... [Pg.60]

The R depends on the amine R NH2 used in the reaction. When ammonia was used a bicyclic product (7) was formed from nitro-ethane. ... [Pg.317]

A mixture of 17.6 grams of p-n-butoxyacetophenone, 12.1 grams of piperidine hydrochloride, 4.5 grams paraformaldehyde, 0.25 cc concentrated hydrochloric acid, 52.5 cc nitro-ethane, 7.5 cc of 95% ethanol, and 15 cc of toluene was boiled under reflux for one hour, removing water formed in the reaction by means of a condensate trap. The mixture was then cooled. The crystals which formed were collected by filtration, washed with anhydrous ether and recrystallized from methyl ethyl ketone. The crystals thus obtained, which melted at 174°-175°C, were shown by analysis to be 4-n-butoxy-beta-piperidinopropiophen-one hydrochloride. [Pg.546]

A mixture of 2-methyl-3-methylene-7-nitro-4-phenyl-3,4-dihydroquinoxaline (97) and its quaternary perchlorate, 2,3-dimethyl-6-nitro-l-phenylquinoxali-nium perchlorate (98), underwent oxidative coupling to give l,2-bis(3-methyl-6-nitro-1 -phenyl-1,2-dihydroquinoxalin-2-ylidene)ethane (99) [Cu-(OAc)2, AcOH-MeCN, 95°C, 20 min 60%] many such condensations... [Pg.111]

The reaction was carried out with /3-keto esters, /3-diketones, malonate, a-formyl ketones, a-cyano and a-nitro esters, cyanoacetamide, and phen-ylsulfonylacetate. (PPh3)2PdCl2 was used with sodium phenoxide. Also, Pd(OAc)2 and PPh3 are good catalysts. When bidentate ligand was used, the 1 1 rather than 1 2 addition reaction took place (56). For example, bis(diphenylphosphino) 1,2-ethane (39) produced a mixture of the following 1,4- (59) and 1,2- (60) addition products ... [Pg.160]

Dinitro-2-butene may be prepared from 1-chloro-l-nitro-ethane by the same procedure, in 30% yield. The compound melts at 28-28.5° and has a boiling point of 135°/11 mm. Commercially available 1-chloro-l-nitroethane contains about 10% 1,1-dichloro-l-nitro-ethane and 2-chloro-2-nitropropane which cannot be separated by distillation, but these impurities do not interfere with the preparation. Distillation of 2,3-dinitro-2-butene behind safety glass in a nitrogen atmosphere is advisable. The submitters, in preparing this compound, have had one explosion over a period of ten years. [Pg.71]
