Estrogen angiotensinogen

There are a number of adverse effects seen with estrogen therapy that are due to first-pass metabolic products. These include an increase in the production of clotting factors and increased synthesis of angiotensinogen.

Increased levels of angiotensinogen caused by estrogens may result in an increase in the activity of the renin-angiotensin system and increased angiotensin II production. Thus, hypertension is seen. 

During pregnancy, plasma levels of angiotensinogen increase severalfold owing to increased estrogen.
