For qtplications involving outdoor exposure, a surface treatment such as anodizing or chemical conversion coating is required prior to the application of a primer and a finish (top) coat, such as an epoxy or polyurethane. Some new one-step, self-priming polyurethane top coats are also available as are low volatile-organic compound (VOC) high-performance primers (e.g., epoxy polyamide). [Pg.210]

Nuclear coatings are formulated to seal and protect concrete, concrete block and steel surfaces. The most commonly used coating types are the amine and polyamide cured epoxy systems. The solids, by volume, can vary from 50 to 100% with fillers or reinforcement fibers usually added so that the coating can perform a wide variety of functions. Reasons for their wide use are that they bond tenaciously to a variety of substrates they cure to a hard smooth finish which results in superior decontamination qualities and, most importantly, they perform satisfactorily in Ciass 1 and 2 service. [Pg.340]

Use For inks and coatings based on resins of vinyl, epoxy, acrylic, polyurethane, polyamide, nitrocellulose, chlorinated rubber. Also used in automotive finishes, extractions, crystallization, diesel fuel additives, and intermediates. [Pg.890]

NiPar. [Angus] Nitropropane intermediate, solvent for inks and coatings esp. for NC, chlorinated rubber, vinyl, epoxy, acrylic, PU, polyamide systems automotive finishes. [Pg.251]

It has been pointed out that the simplest epoxy resins are liquids. Undiluted diepoxide 0 has a viscosity of 36-64 poises (3.6-6.4Pas) at 23 °C, but this viscosity can be lowered further by reactive diluents. The modified resin can have a viscosity as low as 5 poises (0.5Pas). The diluents have an epoxide functionality of only one, so they do not contribute to cross-linking, but they are chemically bound into the final cross-linked film. Since these liquid epoxies may be cured by liquid polyamines or polyamides, no further solvent is required for application. Thus the entire liquid paint can be converted to cross-linked solid without heating, so that it may be called solventless , or a 100% solids finish. [Pg.213]
