Enthalpy Method

The accuracy of the final results is the most important test of a rigorous method, At the solution, these are usually dependent on the K-value and enthalpy methods rather than the rigorous method itself, If the method converges on the wrong answer, the whole effort is worthless. The program should then allow the user to adjust, tune, or add his or her own Jf-value or enthalpy methods to fit the specific system and to interpolate basic VLE data. [Pg.201]

This Stanton number is then used in Eq. (5-125), (5-126), or (5-127) to calculate the heat-transfer coefficient. When calculating the enthalpies for use in the above relations, the total enthalpy must be used i.e., chemical energy of dissociation as well as internal thermal energy must be included. The reference-enthalpy method has proved successful for calculating high-speed heat transfer with an accuracy of better than 10 percent. [Pg.256]

Ideal Gases at High Temperature. Three fundamentally different approaches have been applied to the treatment of the turbulent boundary layer with variable fluid properties all are restricted to air behaving as an ideal, calorically perfect gas. First, the Couette flow solutions have been extended to permit variations in viscosity and density. Second, mathematical transformations, analogous to Eq. 6.36 for a laminar boundary layer, have been used to transform the variable-property turbulent boundary layer differential equations into constant-property equations in order to provide a direct link between the low-speed boundary layer and its high-speed counterpart. Third, empirical correlations have been found that directly relate the variable-property results to incompressible skin friction and Stanton number relationships. Examples of the latter are reference temperature or enthalpy methods analogous to those used for the laminar boundary layer, and the method of Spalding and Chi [104]. [Pg.498]

It should be noted that when the enthalpy is measured only once, measuring errors exist not only in the transformation temperature but also from the baseline. The enthalpy is obtained by integration of the measured area from the peak and a virtual baseline extending from the baseline. The error is small owing to this operation and is <0.5%. If the enthalpy method is used to measure Cj, the measuring error decreases (113). The enthalpy method is as follows ... [Pg.121]

A schematic diagram of the measurement is shown in Figure 4.92. An advantage of the enthalpy method is that relaxation of amorphous alloys does not influence the measured specific heat (Cp because the relaxation arises not only during the heating, but also during the thermal arrest. Therefore, relaxation hardly changes C . [Pg.121]

The difference between the Cp values obtained by the scanning method and those obtained by the enthalpy method has not been fully investigated. The Cp values obtained by DSC agree to within 1.0% with those obtained by adiabatic calorimetry, when the sample is carefully measured. [Pg.156]

The first of these is now often referred to as the total enthalpy method (24,25). In one version, the crystallinty is determined as follows (25). At a temperature Ti below where melting begins, the total heat capacity can be written simply as... [Pg.1989]

The heat exchanger is calculated by discretizing it. In the discretization points, either the bubble-dew point method or the equal enthalpy methods can be used to compute the heat transfer. The first one reduces to the second if there is no condensation or evaporation within the heat exchanger. Thus, we use the default method and obtain Figure 8.32. Related to the wet or dry wall, it is related to the condensation or not of the streams when hitting the tubes. [Pg.342]
