English Channel modeling

Loizeau, U., Abarnou, A., Cugier, P., Jaouen-Madoulet, A., Le Guellec, A.M., and Menesguen, A. (2001) A model of PCB bioaccumaulation in the sea bass food web from Seine estuary (eastern English Channel). Mar. Pollut. Bull. 43, 242-255. [Pg.619]

A simple, quantitative, steady-state diffusion model (36) demonstrates the importance of physical processes in shaping the vertical distribution of phytoplankton. This model uses values of the eddy diffusion coefficient K from the theoretical model of James (35), which reproduces accurately the annual cycle of vertical temperature structure for this area of the Celtic Sea. The submodels for photosynthetic production, light, and grazing can be varied to any of the established models nutrient luxury or nutrient limitation of growth can be included. The model reproduces the main features of the UOR observations in the Celtic Sea and English Channel. [Pg.330]

The estimated annual input of TBT into the North Sea is 68 toimes, primarily from commercial vessels. Approximately 20% of the world s commercial shipping passes through the North Sea. A model of TBT inputs and fluxes indicates that areas of highest TBT impact are the east coast of the UK, the Skagerrak, and the English Channel [126]. [Pg.92]

Inhibition of calcium channels has been suggested as the mechanism of action for the vasorelaxant activity of Chinese salvia (Lam et al. 2005, 2006, 2007). Inhibition of cardiac aldosterone activity was observed in rats treated with Chinese salvia (dose and preparation not specified in English language abstract) (Han et al. 2002). Studies in rats and dogs have indicated a therapeutic effect of Chinese salvia in animal models of myocardial infarction (Liu and Lu 1999 Sun etal.2005). [Pg.769]
