Energy regulation

Many forms and sizes of magnetic stirring apparatus are available commercially. These include those fitted with an electric hot plate attached to the flat top the hot plate is controlled by an energy regulator or variable transformer (Variac). [Pg.70]

Regulations are rules set by governments to protect consumers and to control or direct conduct in the marketplace. Production, transportation, consumption, and prices have all been affected by energy regulations. [Pg.593]

The properties of a particular molecule are due to the types and number of atoms it contains and how those atoms are arranged in space. Caffeine is a stimulant because it has the same shape as one part of cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cyclic AMP), a molecule that helps to regulate the supply of energy in the brain. When caffeine is absorbed into the blood and carried to the brain, it binds to an enzyme that normally controls the supply of cyclic AMP. As a result, the enzyme can no longer bind cyclic AMP, the brain s supply of this energy-regulating molecule is increased, and we feel stimulated. [Pg.119]

In persons with diabetes, a major site of Tzd action is adipose tissue, where the drug promotes glucose uptake and utilization and modulates synthesis of lipid hormones or cytokines and other proteins involved in energy regulation. Tzds also regulate adipocyte apoptosis and differentiation. Numerous other effects have been documented in animal studies, but applicability to human tissues has yet to be determined. [Pg.943]

Chemistry remains a mystery without understanding three basic attributes of matter cohesion, structure and affinity, each of them shaped by an extremum principle. The principle of minimum energy regulates chemical cohesion, which results from the interaction between atoms, also known as chemical bonding. Minimization of angular momentum dictates the three-dimensional arrangement of atoms in chemical substances, which defines their... [Pg.270]
